Whom did Karna defeat

Karna defeated all the major warriors of Pandavas. He defeated most of them more than once. So I am going to post the best defeats of his antagonist or those defeats which I find best in the entire Mb by him. And I prefer one on one battles in spite of the group attacks.

1.) Karna vs Jarasandh -:

After the Swyamvara of the maiden of Kalinga.

Jarasandh wanted a fight with Karna as he himself was present in the Swayamvara of Kalinga Princess. So he invited Karna for a fight. Then Karna accepted his invitation.

Then they fought against each other in a battle of Archery. Then after their steeds, bows, charioteer, and chariot were broken and arrows got exhausted. They picked up their swords. Then their swords also broke off. Then they started wrestling. After a furious fight, Karna was about to cut off Jarasandh’s body in twain. Then Jarasandh accepted his defeat and due to gratification he gave a city “Malini '' to Karna.

2.) Karna vs Shikhandi -:

17th day of Kurukshetra War.

Bheema was killing Kauravas troops then Karna rushed towards Bheema. Then Shikhandi proceeded towards Karna. Then a battle commenced between them.

Karna pierced Shikhandi with 3 arrows in the middle of his eyebrows. Then Shikhandi pierced Karna with 90 keen shafts. Then Karna killed Shikhandi’s steeds and driver and then he cut off the standard of Shikhandi. Then Shikhandi hurled a dart on Karna which was cutoff by the latter. Then Karna pierced Shikhandi with 9 arrows. Then Shikhandi retreated after getting mangled by Karna.

3.) Karna vs Sehadeva -:

14th Night of Kurukshetra War.

Sehadeva was proceeding towards Dronacharya and then Karna resisted Sahadeva. Then a battle commenced between them.

Sehadeva pierced Karna with 9 arrows and then again with 9 arrows. Then Karna pierced Sehadeva with hundreds of arrows and then he cut off the bow of the latter. Then after taking another bow Sehadeva pierced Karna with 20 arrows. Then Karna killed the steeds and driver of Sahadeva. Then Sehadeva took up the sword and shield which were then cutoff by Karna.

Then Sehadeva hurled a powerful mace and a dart on Karna respectively and the latter cut off both respectively. Then Sehadeva hurled a car-wheel on his opponent. Karna cutoff that car-wheel of Sahadeva. Then Sehadeva hurled parts of his car which were all cutoff by Karna.

Then Sehadeva started leaving and Karna pursued him and touched him with the horn of his bow and then said some words. Then Karna spared the life of Sahadeva due to his words for Kunti. Then Sehadeva retreated from Karna.

4.) Karna vs Nakula -:

16th Day of the Kurukshetra War.

Nakula was destroying Kauravas troops. Then Karna rushed towards him. Then Nakula and Karna talked for some time. Then the encounter commenced.

Karna struck and pierced Nakula with 73 shafts. Then Nakula pierced Karna with 80 arrows. Then Karna cutoff the bow of Nakula with winged arrows and afflicted him with 30 arrows. Those 30 arrows pierced Nakula's armour also. Then Nakula took up another bow and cut off Karna’s bow with a razer-headed shaft. Then Nakula struck Karna with 300 arrows. Then Karna took up another bow and struck Nakula in the shoulder with 5 arrows. Then Nakula afflicted Karna with 7 shafts and also cut off Karna’s bow. Then Karna took up another bow.

Then Karna showered his arrows on Nakula from every side. Then Nakula baffled that shower of arrows. Sky was almost covered with arrows. Then those arrows of Karna slaughtered Somakas and Nakula dispersed the Kauravas warriors. After they killed the assisting army of each other then they pierced each other with showers of arrows.

Then Nakula and Karna displayed some celestial weapons against each other. Then Karna covered Nakula with showers of arrows from all sides. Then Karna issued hundreds and thousands of arrows in an array line. Then Karna cutoff the bow of Nakula. Then Karna killed Nakula's charioteer and 4 steeds of the latter with 4 arrows. Then Karna cutoff the car,mace,sword,shield and killed car-wheels protectors of Nakula.

Then Nakula took up a spiked bludgeon(a sort of mace). Then Karna destroyed that bludgeon. Then Karna carefully afflicted Nakula with straight arrows. Then Nakula started fleeing and Karna pursued him and placed his bow on Nakula's neck and said some words. Then Karna spared the life of Nakula due to his words for Kunti. Then Nakula fled away.

5.) Karna vs Yudhishthira -

17th day of the Kurukshetra War.

Karna was rushing towards Yudhishthira after penetrating the Pandavas Array. He faced several Group Attacks and after neutralising all those group attacks, Yudhishthira and Karna then met in one on one battle. Then Yudhishthira said some words to Karna.

Note -: Yudhishthira making Karna unconscious is an interpolation according to Bori Ce.

Then Yudhishthira pierced Karna with 10 arrows and got pierced by Karna with 10 calf-toothed arrows. Then Yudhishthira with a fatal arrow pierced Karna and felled him unconscious. Then Karna recovered his senses quickly.

Then Karna set his heart to destroy Yudhishthira. Then he took up his ancient bow The Vijaya bow and resisted Yudhishthira with sharp shafts. Then Karna with 2 deadly arrows slew the 2 car-wheel protectors of Yudhishthira. Then Yudhishthira pierced Karna and his supporters with 30 and 3 arrows respectively. Then Karna pierced Yudhishthira with 60 arrows. Then 10+ mighty warriors (including Satyaki and Bheema) rushed towards Karna and shot showers of arrows on the latter. Then Karna invoked Brahma Weapon and neutralised that group attack.

Then Karna cutoff the bow of Yudhishthira with some mighty weapons. Then Karna pierced Yudhishthira with 90 arrows and cut off the Armour of the latter. Then Yudhishthira after bathing in blood, hurled a dart on Karna which then was cutoff by the latter. Then Yudhishthira hurled 4 lances on Karna and pierced the latter. Then Karna also was covered with blood.

Then Karna cutoff the standard of Yudhishthira and pierced the latter with 3 arrows. Then he cutoff the 2 quivers and car of Yudhishthira. Then Yudhishthira tried to flee in another car. Then Karna pursued him and touched Yudhishthira with his hand. Then he said some words to Yudhishthira. Then Karna spared the life of Yudhishthira due to his words for Kunti. Then Yudhishthira retreated from Karna.

6.) Karna vs Dhrishtadyumn,Janmejaya, Uttama,Shikhandi,Yudhamanyu.

17th day of the Kurukshetra War.

Karna was killing the Panchals and then Dhrishtadyumna with his 4 brothers proceeded towards Karna. Then a battle commenced between Karna and those 5.

Note -: Yudhamanyu and Uttamauj were Arjuna’s car-wheels protectors.

They rushed towards Karna. Then Karna quickly cutoff their bows, charioteers, banners, steeds, standards and pierced each of them with 5 shafts. Then Karna pierced Shikhandi, Uttama Uk, Yudhamanyu, Janmejaya, Dhristadyumna with 12,6,3,3,3 shafts respectively. Then the 5 sons of Draupadi came to that spot and rescued their vanquished maternal uncles.

7.) Karna vs Visoka,Dhrishtadyumn’s son.

17th day of the Kurukshetra War.

Note -: Dhrishtadyumna’s son was the last recognizable warrior who was killed by Karna. And Prasena is actually Sushena and this character was killed by Uttamauj much earlier as per Critical Edition of Bori. So Satyaki never killed any Sushena.

After many car-warriors Of Kauravas were killed by Arjuna. Then other Kauravas started fleeing. Then Karna began to kill Panchals. Then he faced so many mighty warriors of Pandavas, Panchals, Kekeyas.

Then Karna killed Visoka (The Prince of Kekeya). Then he killed Ugrakarman (Commander of kekeya). After his son Prasena was killed by Satyaki, he shot a terrible shaft on Satyaki. Then Shikhandi cutoff that shaft. Then Karna pierced Shikhandi with 6 shafts and cut off the latter’s bow and standard. Then Karna cutoff the head of Dhrishtadyumna’s son. Thus he defeated and killed Visoka & Dhrishtadyumna's son.

8.) Karna vs Satyaki -:

17th Day of the Kurukshetra War.

In the whole Kurukshetra War we can see that Satyaki was mostly present with Panchals or alone or with Draupadi’s sons.

Karna was fighting against Panchals, Chedis, Kekeya and Bheema. And Duryodhana was fighting with the Twins and then he defeated them. Then Dhrishtadyumn came towards Duryodhana. That time Karna was still fighting against Panchals, Chedis, Kekeya and Satyaki also. However Satyaki’s name is not mentioned specifically. But he was definitely present in Panchals or Chedis. Explanation below.

Then after some time Dhrishtadyumn defeated Duryodhana. Then Kaurava warriors wanted to help Duryodhana for faster retreat. Then Karna vanquished Satyaki (Present in Panchals) and rushed towards Duryodhana.

9.) Karna vs Ghatotkach -:

14th Night of the Kurukshetra War.

Lord Krishna ordered Ghatotkach to face Karna, so that Karna’s infallible Vasavi Dart which he had kept so long for Arjuna’s destruction will get away from Karna's Arsenal, obviously due to the high powers of Rakshasas at night.

Then Ghatotkach and Karna fought brilliantly against each other. Ghatotkach invoked 1000s of illusions on Karna. Then Karna countered all those illusions. Ghatotkach invoked Asani of Rudra’s workmanship. Karna caught Asani from his bare arms. Then Karna hurled that Asani on Ghatotkach which forced the latter to jump from his chariot. And then Ghatotkach’s chariot with steeds and charioteer were burnt into ashes within moments. Ghatotkach mostly used to flee by getting invisible after his handcuffs were destroyed or countered by Karna.

Then Alayudh came and Ghatotkach abandoned Karna and Ghatotkacha vs Alayudh mainly happened which resulted in the death of Alayudh. Also Karna fought with many in b/w. Then Karna vs Ghatotkach restarted. Then again a fierce fight commenced.

Then Ghatotkach invoked his biggest illusion which was destroying Kauravas troops and killing car-warriors in big numbers. Then Ghatotkach with a Qataghani weapon killed 4 steeds of Karna. However Karna still fought against him but failed to destroy that master illusion. Then Karna was requested, to use Vasavi Dart as early as possible, by Kauravas. Then Karna kept his senses under control and set his mind to use Vasavi Dart. Then Karna invoked the infallible Vasavi Dart on Ghatotkach which destroyed that illusion and penetrated the Ghatotkach’s chest. Then Ghatotkach fell down deprived of life. Hence Karna defeated and killed Ghatotkach.

10.) Karna vs Bheema -:

15th Day of the Kurukshetra War.

After Sehadeva afflicted Dushasan severely Karna rushed towards Dushasan. Then Bheema proceeded towards Karna. Then a battle commenced between them.

Bheema pierced Karna on the chest and arms with 3 sharp shafts. Then Karna started resisting Bheema and they both rushed towards each other. Then the distance between them was extremely less which does not support Archery pretty much. Then an encounter of maces happened between them.

Then Bheema hurled his mace and broke the Kuvara of Karna’s car. Then Karna hurled his mace on Bherma. Then Bheema broke the mace of Karna from his own mace. Then Bheema once more hurled his mace on Karna. Then Karna with great force struck that mace with many shafts and then once again struck that mace. Then the mace of Bheema rebounded towards him. Then Bheema’s own mace destroyed his standard and felled his driver unconscious.

Then Bheema, mad with rage, cutoff the bow, standard, leather fences of Karna with 8 shafts. Then Karna took up another bow and slew Bheema’s 4 steeds and then he slew 2 Parshini charioteers of Bheema. Then Bheema jumped on the chariot of Nakula from his unusable car. Thus Bheema gets defeated by Karna.

11.) Karna vs Arjuna.

17th day of the Kurukshetra War.

Pandavas were killing troops of Kauravas. After much slaughter Kauravas started fleeing from Pandavas(Forces). Then Karna tried to stop them but they didn't listen. Then Duryodhana came towards Karna and asked him to do something for the fleeing forces.

Then Karna invoked the Mighty Bhargava Weapon. Then millions and millions of keen arrows flowed from that weapon. Then Pandavas Army could not see anything except the blazing arrows coming from that weapon. Then thousands of men,horses, elephants fell down deprived of life. Then Panchals and Chedis and Srinjayas get slaughtered by Karna in big numbers. Then after much slaughter all the living creatures filled with fear.

Then Srinjayas repeatedly called Arjuna for help. Then Arjuna said to Lord Krishna that Bhargava Weapon can't be baffled by any means and also said “ I will never be able to fly away from Karna in battle!”. Then Lord Krishna said that we should see Yudhishthira first then we will engage with Karna.

Then Lord Krishna proceeded and thought that Karna meanwhile would be overwhelmed with fatigue. Then Arjuna avoided Karna and left the spot leaving behind thousands who repeatedly called him for help. Thus Arjuna fled away from Karna. Hence, Karna defeated Arjuna.
